An American classic, Nautica offers polo shirts and clothing known for rich color, performance and style. Designed for active, adventurous and spirited lifestyles, it is a top American lifestyle brand, known worldwide.
Nautica is derived from “Nauticus”, Latin for ship. In Italian, it means seamanship. Exploring the seas was one of mankind's first accomplishments. The company's spinnaker logo symbolizes adventure, action and classicism. Founded in 1983, a nautical heritage and spirit is reflected in every aspect of its brand, including color names of its polo shirts.
Its parent, VF Corporation, was awarded the 2017 World's Most Ethical Company® by the Ethisphere Institute, one of three apparel companies.
The Ben Sherman brand became famous for being sported by several well-known musicians and singers. It was the first company to produce the famous Oxford button-down shirt and grew to become the fourth largest men's casual wear brand in the United Kingdom.
Ben Sherman was founded in 1963 by Arthur Bernard Sugarman, who was born in Brighton, England, and immigrated to the U.S. in 1946 via Canada. He married the daughter of a Californian clothes producer and later returned to Brighton where he bought a concourse shirt factory, the inauguration of the Ben Sherman brand.
GANT is a lifestyle brand offering modern, high quality casual wear with a European touch. GANT introduced button down collared shirts to Americans and is credited with inventing the locker loop, which famously spread throughout Ivy League campuses.
GANT’s American values derived from its 1949 founding in New Haven, CT, and was later influenced by European styles. These two influences still inspire its key values: Integrity, Refinement, Character, Understanding, and Optimism. GANT is considered one of the first great American sportswear brands, including its men's polo shirts.
The Original Penguin golf shirt debuted in 1955 in a Munsingwear undergarment factory in Minneapolis. It was quickly adopted by the rich and famous, including Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Arnold Palmer, Clint Eastwood and Richard Nixon. Its innovative styling was an "action gusset", a ribbed fabric slice on the underarm for avoiding tears during a golfer's swing. This polo shirt was a standard in leisure wear through the 1980s.
In 2000, young trendsetters scoured yard sales for the shirt, beginning its rebirth as a cult classic. Penguin's mid-century styles were redesigned for a modern lifestyle without compromising its heritage and craftsmanship. The Penguin polo shirt shirt is now remembered as "The 55", a symbol of relaxed sophistication and a cornerstone of the leisure wear movement.
Strangely, it took an attorney to create the world's perfect t-shirt. In 1992, Moise Emquies, a law school graduate waiting for his California bar results, was invited by a friend to design a t-shirt for her clothing store. His first rayon t-shirt design quickly sold out. Ten years later, Emquies discovered the softest fabric and most color absorbing yarn combination: 50% supima luxurious cotton and 50% super-soft rayon that absorbs dyes deeply. So perfect, he called it Splendid. A full t-shirt collection was launched in 1972 which has grown into an extensive collection of t-shirts, polo shirts and other apparel. Splendid's shirts have been featured in countless magazines, movies and television and is known for its clean, simple and effortless styling.
